Queer Nowruz Mehmooni 2025/1404

This month, we celebrate Nowruz! Join Tarab NYC for a special Queer & Trans-inclusive Nowruz mehmooni (house party). One of the biggest holidays observed in Iran, Afghanistan, and throughout Central Asia, Nowruz is a time for renewal, joy, and community—so let’s celebrate together.

Saturday, March 29, 9 PM – 2 AM @ Barzakh (Brooklyn, NY)

We’re bringing the mehmooni vibes to Barzakh Cafe—think cozy, festive, and full of love. A space for queer and trans SWANA folks to build community, reconnect, and celebrate, especially for those who may not be able to gather with family this season.

  • Start the night with nostalgic Nowruz tunes
  • Beraghs with music from DJ Fana & another DJ to be announced soon!
  • Aks begir with our fabulous community haftseen (Nowruz altar)
  • Khosh begzareh with chai, sweets, and festive snacks
  • Support our community through a suggested donation cover, proceeds will be shared between Tarab NYC and Make the Road NY/Trans Asylias, supporting queer and trans immigrants in need

Drinks? Barzakh just got their liquor license! They’ll be serving beer, wine, sangria, sake, and soju (no hard liquor).

Tickets are $10 in advance, $20 on the day of/at the door. We want to make sure this event is accessible to all, if ticket prices are cost prohibitive, email Parisa, and we will try our best to accommodate.

This isn’t a club night—it’s a mehmooni. A place to gather, dance, and celebrate in a way that feels like home. Whether you’re sipping chai, making new friends, or vibing to the music, biya digeh—tarof nakon! Special thanks to the many Nowruz celebrating volunteers that helped organize and make this event possible.
