Tarab NYC is recruiting new board members to help guide our next chapter as we continue to grow. Board members help run programming, build sustainable leadership pathways, and lead their own projects. If you’re passionate about building community, fostering relationships, fundraising, managing operations, creating meaningful programs, and supporting our mission to create an inclusive and safe space for Queer SWANA people, we’d love for you to join us.
Available Roles:
- Volunteer Engagement Lead
Build and sustain an organized volunteer base (Pride Month volunteers, social event volunteers, etc.), maintain a clear list of volunteer roles/opportunities, and coordinate people power behind our programs and partnerships as needed. - Content Creator
Lead social media campaigns, create content that reflects the stories and fabric of our community (with an emphasis on community storytelling and oral history), and promote fundraisers and Culture Lab programming. - Community Partnerships Lead
Identify and lead collaboration opportunities, respond to partnership inquiries Tarab NYC receives, and coordinate with other board members (especially Volunteer Engagement) to activate partnerships and amplify Tarab NYC’s reach. - Open Seat (General Board Member / Special Projects)
Support core programming and operations while leading a self-directed project aligned with TARAB NYC’s mission (examples: events production support, community care initiatives, fundraising support, programming strategy, grant support, or launching a new community series).
These roles are open to people who identify as LGBTQ+ and SWANA/from the region. We especially encourage recent immigrants to apply. As a board member, you’ll be expected to attend bi-weekly virtual meetings, participate in quarterly full-day in-person retreats, and support the mission through a focus area or project of your choice. We recently adopted an economic justice model, and as a first step, each board member will receive a small stipend in recognition of this labor of love. (After at least six months of service.)
How to Apply
Please email Mirna Haidar at mirna@tarabnyc.org and CC coordinator@tarabnyc.org sharing:
- Why you’re interested, which role (if any) you’re applying for, and what project you’d want to work on. (Suggested 100 – 400 Words)
- Your resume and/or any relevant background information.
Submit your interest by February 28. We’ll review applications through Ramadan and will reach out to applicants by March 17. If selected, you’ll begin as a board member starting in April.
