  LGBT Community Center has worked to be a safe and
  affirming space for <i>all</i> LGBTQ+ people\, in
 cluding Queer Muslims. In 2017\, the <a href="http
 s://gaycenter.org/communityiftar/">Annual LGBTQ+ C
 ommunity Iftar</a> was co-founded by leaders of Ca
 ribbean Equality Project\, Tarab NYC\, SALGA NYC\,
  and Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversi
 ty\, in partnership with the LGBT Community Center
  and the Commission on Human Rights. The event was
  originally established in response to the Trump a
 dministration’s ban on individuals from predominan
 tly Muslim countries.</p>\n \n <h4><strong>Theme: 
 A Decade of Ummah </strong></h4>\n \n <p>This year
 ’s theme\, “A Decade of Ummah\,” honors 10 years o
 f coming together in faith\, fellowship\, and radi
 cal belonging.</p>\n \n <p>Iftar\, the breaking of
  the fast during Ramadan\, is a sacred moment root
 ed in generosity\, gratitude\, and care for one an
 other. For 10 years\, this celebration has created
  a welcoming\, safe space for LGBTQ+ Muslims\, fam
 ilies\, friends\, and allies to gather together in
  a gender-neutral prayer\, share a meal\, and upli
 ft the beauty of the chosen and spiritual communit
 y through delicious food\, education\, storytellin
 g\, and exciting culturally responsive entertainme
 nt.</p>\n \n <p>As we mark a decade of Ummah (the 
 global community of Muslims bound together by fait
 h or culture)\, we reflect on the resilience\, lov
 e\, and collective care that have sustained this t
 radition\, while looking ahead with hope and inten
 tion. All are welcome to join us for an evening of
