Pride and Solidarity

A Message From The Tarab NYC Board

Salamat Tarab NYCers,

The board extends a huge “thank you!” to all our Tarab NYC members and participants for making this Pride month epitomize MENA fabulousness!  Your generous support and exhilarating presence made the entire month a flaming success, from the kick-off mixer at Henrietta Hudson to our participation in Queens and Brooklyn Pride, to the celebratory grand finale of the Manhattan Pride Parade and Color Me Queer. Check out our YouTube recap here!

In the midst of our gratitude and pride, we want to acknowledge the simultaneous tragedies afflicting our global LGBTQIA+ MENA family – from the horror affecting Pride in Turkey to the recent brutalizing of a Moroccan transgender woman to the many other macro- and microaggressions we cannot fully enumerate here. Additionally, we are saddened by the use of video snippets of our Pride celebrations being disseminated across certain social media to portray our community in a negative light.

While standing in solidarity with our larger global family, Tarab NYC looks forward to continuing to provide safe, entertaining and supportive space for queer Middle Easterners within the greater NYC area. To that end, we thank you again for your graciousness and participation in Pride, and look forward to seeing your lovely faces throughout the year at events such as our upcoming Eid Picnic and annual Tarab On The Beach!

Bil Tarab,
